Saint Thomas to Loyola Chicago. Good for him, could see him balling out there for a year or 2 and transferring up to a power conference school

He’ll be a really good player in the Valley and should have a chance to play in the big dance a couple times at Loyola.

Are we back onto Tamar Bates? We've got extra room availability.

Uncomfortable opinion warning...

The first African American transfer or recruit to commit to Creighton following Coach Mac's boneheaded, racist comments will face challenges and questions he wouldn't face at another program. Fans will bring it up, because they are fans. The player's inner circle will ask questions. "Isn't that the coach who told his players not to leave the plantation? That's who you're going to play for?" There will be a burden placed on such a player that he would not have to face if he committed elsewhere. Will it last long? I hope not. But it'll be a thing and create a competitive disadvantage for a while, in my opinion.

One word. One damn word. How the hell could Mac make that mistake/comment? Such an error in judgment derailed an entire program. You could reasonably argue that if he simply would have said "don't give up" or "stick with us" instead of what he said, TyTy would be on his way to Omaha and CU would have been one of the leaders in the clubhouse for Bates/Enaruna. Maybe Bishop wouldn't have transferred (less certain on this one). ONE WORD!!

Can this be overcome in today's ultra-competitive recruiting world? I guess time will tell but I have serious doubts.

I have an ulcer now.

I agree that this is a possibility or even probability. Not sure I agree on who may have come or left because there were other circumstances (Bates specifically said he wanted to play for a black head coach well before Mac made his comments) that surely factored into those decisions.

I agree with the frustration about the one word and, for the life of me, have no idea how a white guy in the midwest pulled that word out, even in frustration. In my neck of the woods, however, the word "plantation" is on thousands (and i do mean thousands) of neighborhoods. Hilton Head? Almost every upscale golf/tennis/club neighborhood has it in the name. Moss Creek Plantation. Hilton Head Plantation. Wexford Plantation. Colleton River Plantation. Only in the last few years have they started taking the word off marketing/websites. But take a drive down William HIilton Parkway and the word is everywhere. Suburban Atlanta? "Plantation" neighborhoods everywhere. Charleston? Plantations everywhere that are, apparently, tourist attractions. Heck one of the clubhouses in my neighborhood changed names in the past year from Plantation to Palmetto.

All of that to say that an African American kid from the south might be almost immune to that word since it's been shoved in his face since the day he was born. But to your point, a kid will have to answer that question at some point. I think it will take a kid that either builds a special relationship with McDermott or someone who's "immune" to that word. Just another opinion.

Get what you're saying, totally. But Bates wasn't ever going to come here since his intentions were to play for a black coach.

The difficulty is in getting a foot in the door and overcoming negative recruiting. Really nobody is going to care once a Black player comes here. We have a super soft media which is basically Jon and then people associated directly with Creighton; this is hardly the Knicks. There will be one question about it, the kid will say he believes he will get a fair shake from Mac, and that's that.
