The first African American transfer or recruit to commit to Creighton following Coach Mac's boneheaded, racist comments will face challenges and questions he wouldn't face at another program. Fans will bring it up, because they are fans. The player's inner circle will ask questions. "Isn't that the coach who told his players not to leave the plantation? That's who you're going to play for?" There will be a burden placed on such a player that he would not have to face if he committed elsewhere. Will it last long? I hope not. But it'll be a thing and create a competitive disadvantage for a while, in my opinion.
One word. One damn word. How the hell could Mac make that mistake/comment? Such an error in judgment derailed an entire program. You could reasonably argue that if he simply would have said "don't give up" or "stick with us" instead of what he said, TyTy would be on his way to Omaha and CU would have been one of the leaders in the clubhouse for Bates/Enaruna. Maybe Bishop wouldn't have transferred (less certain on this one). ONE WORD!!
Can this be overcome in today's ultra-competitive recruiting world? I guess time will tell but I have serious doubts.
I have an ulcer now.
