Play Omaha and get the city extra excited for college hoops. It's wouldn't have to be like the old Iowa days where their legislature required UI and ISU play UNI each year. during the regular season. I'm guessing Mac was at UNI for a couple of those years. It wouldn't have to be every year, just enough to make it look like we aren't scared to play them. Which it looks like now. Act like you're Kansas and can beat anyone. Oh wait, they wouldn't play us because they also worried they would lose.

I could live with this.

I could too. The funny thing is Fran at Iowa quit their series b/c they lost a few. I don't Creighton stands a chance to lose to UNO.

Why on earth should we schedule them and elevate their program when they are in a competing market with us. Like it or not, that is the case. When they went DI, they did so coming for a piece of our fanbase, including adding soccer. We owe them nothing. We should schedule them only if there is a distinct benefit for us.

+1. Let UNL duke it out with them.

Same could of said by John Cook playing Creighton every year. Seems to have worked out pretty well for everyone, including the community.

As I stated earlier, also sounds like Nebrasketball fan of 1980's and 1990's and that should be avoided at all cost.

Bad take. Creighton volleyball is upper echelon. UNO basketball is in the 20-something rated conference and has been meh before this past season. Creighton MVC basketball outside of the Johnson era and a couple other bad seasons has been top flight in a conference that was 8th-10th each year in the good ol days.

Also, if UNL would decide not to schedule Creighton volleyball no biggie, the Jays play a loaded non-conference each year and funny to say but they don’t need the UNL match for scheduling cred.
I don’t vet ‘em, I just post ‘em.

Is it? Check your history. For the first decade they played Creighton, the Jays were a middling Mo Valley conf VB team, so yes the take is good.

Anyway, at the end of the day, if a Summit team is played it should be Omaha, and I am surprised at the number here who 1) think Omaha is a NCAA doormat (they're not near the same level as Jays, but aren't your daddy's Mavs anymore) 2) Do not have enough confidence in their national program and think Omaha can be a threat to them or their fan base.(I like both and the Mavs pose almost zero threat to the team and zero threat to the fan base).

Oh well, it would be fun for the basketball community.

Regardless of what either side of this argument thinks, can we all maybe agree that it's too soon to even have this discussion?

If you're going to say, "this isn't your daddy's Mavs team anymore," can we maybe wait until they have more than one good season to make that proclamation? They've made one NCAA tournament in their history, they aren't competitive on the court with major programs when they have the chance to play them out of conference, and they play in the Summit League. I think they are closer to being labeled a low major league versus a mid-major.

The Summit League is not the MVC from the early 2000s. That league was often a top six or seven RPI League, they had plenty of quality non-conference victories, and were routinely winning games in the tournament. If they ever get into a comparable situation then yes absolutely let's schedule them.

I'm rooting for Omaha. I really am. I hope they continue to build off the success from this season. But this game does nothing for us at this juncture IMO.

Strange mentality from some in this thread. I’d like to see it because it would help UNO, another Omaha team. Not the end of the world if we play them instead of some other garbage team early season.

I didn’t see it mentioned, but there are probably thousands of reasons to do it: to not have to pay for travel expenses of some random team.

And on top of that you can probably low ball them because they’d love nothing more than to play that game.

As far as ‘elevating a team we are competing with’, we’d better not be competing with the likes of them.

Everything revolves around money now. For the right discount I would stick them in the CHI and whomp them.
