Giving guys open shots that can't hit 3s is called a game plan. Teams just played solid man-to-man on Hawkins, Alex, and Nembhard and sagged off everyone else on the perimeter.

Giving guys open shots that can't hit 3s is called a game plan. Teams just played solid man-to-man on Hawkins, Alex, and Nembhard and sagged off everyone else on the perimeter.

Too many games they were able to play tight on Hawkins, watched Alex most of the time and sagged off everyone, and when Alex wasn't hitting just guarded Hawkins. We had a real lack of shooters last year... or rather a lack of consistent shooting (we were very hot and very cold)

The returning squad has no spacing. We graduated our only two volume 3-point shooters. We need to replace 12 3PA per game. Our returning guys made a total of 89 3s in 35 games last year (2.54 per game) on 336 attempts (9.6 per game) for a whopping 26.5% from 3. And that was from a squad that finished in the bottom 15% of all teams in the country in 3P%.

As Syajeulb noted, we got some pretty good spacing in almost every game last year. Outside of Hawkins we didn't have a consistent threat that needed to be guarded every game. O'Connell got hot at times, and Nembhard did hit shots at times (26% in conference), but we need shooters (either portal or developed) next year. - Farabello would have been our best 3 PT shooter last year by about 25 pts, and his career average is 40% better than Hawkins was last year.

I also expect Kaluma, Nembhard, and Alexander to both shoot much better next year, while Miller should be able to hit shots early in the year (extra year of practice will help).. and don't count out Kalk getting comfortable from 3 PT, but that's counting on a lot of development

Farabello has a super low usage and a super high 3 PT shooting percentage and one of our coaches knows him really well. I can definitely understand this

Fran took a lot of heat on this board but he was a big part of this team's success this year. Not great defensively but hit some big shots on offense and by all accounts was a great teammate and leader. I think his playing time was probably going to suffer next year with the two redshirt guards ready to come back. Nevertheless, I wish him the very best and hope he knows he will be missed and will always be considered a Frog for life! Good luck Fran!

Were you guys watching the same offense last year as I was? Or maybe we have different definitions of 'spacing'?

Farabello seems like a fine guy off the bench for 15-20 mpg, but I don't think he'll be getting 30 mpg unless one of our main guards gets injured.

Who said they expected him to play 30 per game? I think everyone has basically said 10-20 range. Give us a boost off the bench. Maybe he can our version of the guy every other team seems to have when we play them. You know…the bench guy who comes in and hits like 6-8 from deep to lead the team in scoring.

Ok, let me be specific - he did not have good games against athletic teams with good defense. Against Arizona - 0 points. Iowa st. - 0 points. Baylor -0 points one game, 3 points another game. Texas - 0 points one game, 2 points another game. Several other games with 0 points. I think this is definitely a reach and we should hold out for someone better. Coaches not making a good decision here if they end up signing him. He seems like a good guy, but don’t see the added value to what we have now.

Yeah, I’m going to trust the coaches over someone on the Internet, sorry.
And any additional, reliable shooting is added value to the core we have. And by the way, those lines are a) from last year when he played the least he ever had, b) what you expect for shooting specialists against good teams - good teams are well-coached, well-coached teams generally play good scouting report defense, and c) on a team that probably isn’t as good as getting shooters open looks as we do.
