2014 Wing Josh Cunningham (Bradley Commit)

We liked Cunningham and he's a good player, but there's no reason for us to get into recruiting him to transfer now. Now that we have Huff, Hegner, Harrell, Gilmore, and Martin K on the roster we really don't need another 4/3 type.

There's a reason all of our work lately has been with recruiting guards and not one forward or big.

+1 - I was about to ask the question: Who on our current roster do those clamoring to sign some of these JUCO's and transfers want to see leave in order to make room? Which of the guys mentioned above are you willing to give the heave ho. Is Cunningham or these other guys a sure fire, can't miss better replacement than who we have in his position on the roster now? Because if he is not, then why disrupt the team by giving someone the boot? Cunningham had a nice freshman season in the Missouri Valley, but he was also on a team that was so bad it was easy to step in and get a lot of minutes as a freshman, and the competition was no where near Big East level. So, what makes anyone so sure he would be better than anyone that we already have on our roster that you are ready to jettison a current player to give him a spot? And bear in mind that the lowest shooting percentages on the team this year of those with significant minutes were Austin, Devin and Avery. Additionally, Will was just a fraction above Zach, and about 10 percent below Geoffrey. If one of the current guys is leaving because he wants better opportunity elsewhere, then fine. But, I don't see chasing off a current player on an unknown commodity.

No logical reason to pursue Cunningham.

As others have mentioned, we moved on and got several other players at his position.

I'm sure the answer is still no but with Gilmore leaving does that change anyone's thinking?

8 and 7 are good number for a freshman MVC or not. For giggles I went to espn to look at his game stats. He went for 15 points and 21 boards against MO st. That's pretty freakish.

some interesting Conference (MVC versus BE) stats with per 40 minutes adjustment:

player 1: 10.7 points/10.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.5 blocks, TS% .490 (3PT .182%)
player 2: 14.1 points/7.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.4 blocks, TS%.562

Player 1 is Josh, Player 2 is Hegner. Cunningham's stats look good partly because he played 32 minutes a game during the conference season AND played in the MVC. He's a nice player, but there's no way he goes 8 and 7 in the Big East. Given that we also have Huff coming in to play this year and given that we also have Martin K coming in, there's pretty much no chance we want Cunningham IMO.

thanks Hilltop. A correction, I put in Toby's full season numbers: Conference he was 13.1 points/8.1 rebounds. So a bit less scoring and a bit better rebounding.

I like Cunningham as a prospect and normally I would want to staff to grab as much talent as possible, but I think Creighton has bigger targets at the moment.

Yeah yeah....I get that it was in the valley. And I get that nobody could ever go from the valley to the big East and have success or even get better. Surely that's never been done.

Fortunately CU is already dominant on the boards and giving up untimely offensive rebounds didn't Ever hurt the Jays this year.

Sarcasm aside...CU just lost a 6'7" forward. A 6'7" forward that was a 4 star recruit and had offers from tons of p5 schools...in other words you can't just turn your nose up at this lowly MVC player. That he ended up there was a fluke.

Not sure about the comparison to Hegner. Hegner has an extra year of development on him. And I wasn't suggesting a trade for hegner. Effectively it would be a trade for LG3. And I'd say that would be a serious upgrade.
