"It's a great achievement but I owe it all to my coaches, my family and my teammates for getting this far," Stewart said.
The North Scott senior passed the milestone by scoring 26 points Tuesday night to lead the Lancers past Davenport West 74-34 in Mississippi Athletic Conference action at The Pit.
Stewart needed just 14 points coming into the game to reach 1,000 and he blew past that midway through the third quarter. He had 11 points in the first half but scored eight of the Lancers' 14 third-quarter points to help North Scott (13-3, 10-1 MAC) break open a close game.
He left the game with 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter to a warm ovation from the crowd and high-fives from his teammates and coach Shamus Budde. Stewart came to the Lancers before the beginning of his junior season after playing his first two years for the Falcons.
"I'm very happy for Marlon, he's a great kid," Budde said. "He's very coachable, he works hard and he puts a lot of time into his game. There's not a lot of kids that can say they reached (1,000 points). He's just a great basketball player and he's going to continue to get better."
Stewart said becoming such a prolific scorer just took hard work.
"Getting in the gym and working," he said. "I think I've matured a lot and become more consistent, taking good shots."

The more I read and hear about this kid the more I am happy he is a Jay!

It's a great thing to see that Marlon knows hard work off the court leads to success on it. Being a gym rat is the most underrated quality a recruit can have.

Marlon might be more of a scoring combo guard after seeing all of these high scoring efforts from him. Honestly, with how much we have struggled with a lack of playmakers this year, I am excited to see how Marlon's scoring prowess translates into the Big East

Wow 15-12 at halftime? 37-32 final? Yikes.

That's what a lot of defense and no shot clock will get you.

Also, something I never understood, why does High School and NBA play 4 quarters but College play two halves? So weird to me.

Sounds like some of our halftime scores this year.

Looks like Marlon has already hit the weight room. That is a mature frame.
