I've been wondering this too.
JP does not strike me as the type of player that's going to come in and be able to hang with the big kids right away, regardless of the position he plays. His top 40 ranking is something both he and the CU fans should be proud of, but now that we see him competing again it appears to be largely based on the potential that lays in his further development as a player, not what he is right now. IMO, the best thing for his development would be a RS year, where he can focus on adding weight (something he would not really be able to do while playing significant minutes for the team) and further developing his skills
If he continues to come into his own throughout this season, which very well could happen, the conversation changes, until then I'm all for him getting a redshirt
