I’m going from an old Media Guide. Creighton is 5-10 all time versus Arkansas. The last meeting was a loss in 2016 at home, I think. We are 25-17 all time against Kansas (current RPI 24), but lost to them in the last meeting in 2023. We split this season’s matchups with North Dakota State, so we are familiar with them. We will need a lot of things to break our way. I think we can get this first game against Kansas though.

Arky hosts every year, but they typically do a terrible job of handling all those expectations and fan pressure. They lost last year to K St, the year before to TCU and, although they won their ‘22 regional, they hosted a Super and lost again, to NC St. I think that was the year nebby gave them fits in their regional, and almost stole it. Somebody with the right WTF attitude can go in there and win. I don’t know if that’s us, but why not.

The Big East took UConn out of the mix. The committee chair said as much. At least three teams with worse RPIs got in ahead of them, but their strength of schedule was 87th, even with Vandy, No Car and Miami (twice) on their sked. If their fan base hated the BE before, well…

And I prefer to think that Oregon just laying down against nebby Friday, not taking it seriously, cost them a national (1 to 8) seed. They were really gunning for one and most forecasters had them in the mix for 7 or 8.

2021 was actually the NC State super loss. In 2022 Arkansas nearly made it to the CWS finals before Ole Miss knocked them out.

So much for that idea of three big east teams getting in, huh?

Here’s how truly putrid Big East baseball is. Butler had a team ERA for the season of 10.42. That’s epically bad. That’s Little League territory. Their Friday night ace sits at 7.5. Of their 21 conference games, they gave up double-digit run totals in 14 of ‘em. But here’s the kicker: they’re not even the worst team in the league. GTown finished a game behind Butler.

At least four schools in this league won’t take baseball seriously enough to build even a semblance of a program. They’re content to just bump along every year and maybe make the BE tourney every now and then, like the Georgies last year. And three more don’t play the game at all (maybe it’s better that way). But what other D1 conference has more than 25% of its members just sitting out a major sport? Even the Ivy League manages to roll out all eight baseball teams.

This is the same league that was invited to nail down the stadium of the College World Series for the conf. tournament long-term, but no, they’d rather go to a park in a Cincinnati suburb that some drug company built in its backyard, I guess because they have free ice cream and a bouncy house.

I got the impression from that committee chair today that were always going to be a one-bid league and it’d be hard to make a case that that isn’t fair.

Just watched channel 6 news at 4pm. Big early story on the Huskers making the tourney and their upcoming schedule and opponent. Not a peep about the Jays in it, or in the sports segment. Figures.
So long Valley, hello big time.

Channel 7 was equal in their reporting. I guess a new news channel is in your future! 8-)
