In other news, there are no teams left in the Big 12 tournament who are within a comfortable days drive of Kansas City and the Arizona Texas Tech game was played in front of about 2,000 people.

Man. We wouldn't have needed a plane ticket to recruit him. We wouldn't have even needed car keys. John Tonje went to high school two blocks from campus. Literally on the same street. I know everybody else missed on him too, but he was right there all along. Damn. Damn, damn, damn. Damn.

Ya how good was that era for Nebraska high school basketball? Tonje, Hepburn, Sallis, Schierman, Wrightsell. There is a long list of D1 players from those 2019 2020 years. If I remember right, Millard North had four D1 players and didnt even make the state playoffs in 2019.

Feels like it’s too easy for the committee to make an 8/9 matchup between the Jays and Richard Pitino’s New Mexico team.

On paper, our realistic opponents probably include:
Memphis
Mississippi St
New Mexico
Georgia
Baylor
Utah State
Oklahoma

The most intriguing game would be against Oklahoma but I don’t see them going above a 10 seed. Memphis will be a higher seed than 8. I think Utah State is a lower seed, 10 or 11. I don’t think Georgia gets above a 10 either. That leaves the other 3 as most realistic in my view. I would love to be matched against Baylor as we owe them. Mississippi State doesn’t make sense as a matchup. New Mexico would be a solid choice, but they might be too athletic for us, so good opponent for them to place us, but I am not sure I want that game, and our record against Mountain West teams sucks.

If the 1 seeds are Duke, Auburn, Houston and Florida, as seems to be the most likely case, the best scenario for us is to be placed in Florida’s bracket, by far. We have absolutely no chance of beating the other three.
