Phenomenal play by the Jays defense there. Threw a guy out at home. The relay was perfect. Still 9 to 8.

It’s very early, but I like to check anyway. Our RPI is 37 on Warren Nolan’s site. UConn and Xavier are high because of their tough schedules. Our schedule so far has actually been challenging considering the rpi of th me teams we’ve played. Samford and San Francisco are decent too. Solid change to move up as the season goes on.

Strength of schedule is not going to be enough to get an at-large bid, regardless of how well we do in the non-conference. That's a choice the coaches make, and not necessarily the wrong one. Witness Xavier, a team at least as good as Creighton, getting destroyed over the last 10 days by the toughest schedule in the country. Or UConn, who has been at a higher level than Creighton since joining the BE, with a record of 5-8 and an SOS of 7. Those are the teams that could potentially receive at at-large bid, but at some point they will have to start winning the games.

The main benefit of winning non-conference games is the momentum it gives going into the only games that matter, the 21 conference games. Side benefits include maintaining the perception of Creighton as a Top 75-100 program nationally, and propping up the RPI's for the conference opponents that could potentially get an at-large bid, Xavier and UConn.

Gutsy win for Creighton last night against an offensively talented Kansas State team that is good enough to repeat as a regional champion, despite losing some top players from last season.
“...When people ask me where I went to school at, I probably won’t even say the other school anymore. It’s just gonna be Creighton. This is where I grew, where I learned to be a man and a basketball player. This is where I became Jamiya Neal.”

The RPI would go against your point though: Xavier is sitting at #2 right now.

Yes X is #2 rpi and they will likely stay at least around 20 throughout the season. But good point. K State was a super regional team last year, and we just beat them! I’m excited about this year’s squad.

I know there’s a massive basketball game tonight, but hopefully the baseball Jays can take care of business first against San Francisco. Stormy here, and then the as also rain in SF, so the start time got pushed back an hour. We are up 1 to 0 in the bottom of the 2nd. We have been thrown on twice on steals. I like that we are aggressive, but this catcher seems to have an arm. So maybe don’t run ourselves out of innings, which we’ve done both times now. Left guys stranded. After being punched out on the base paths. Gillen already has 2 hits. Teddy hit into a double play. He continues to be in an early season slump.
