Hurley has earned the right to decide his future, but I don’t see it as a good fit. No one’s getting LeBron to play defense. And I don’t see how Hurley coaching fits in with LeBron’s idea that he is going to play alongside or coach his son, who is not an NBA talent.

Hurley is a great college coach but much of his genius is player development and the rest is his elaborate offensive layers. I don’t see either of those skills giving him a big advantage in the NBA. He’s also a master at rallying a fan base but I don’t foresee the Laker fan base responding to him quite the same same.

If he does go to the NBA, a better fit would be somewhere where there are a lot of young, hungry, scrappy players.

What have you got to prove at UConn still? Think he’ll go in with the deck stacked against him in a loaded West. Gonna be up to the GM mostly, but I can’t see the Lakers making it to the Finals in the next 3-4 years, which will be the expectation.

I’d definitely do it if I were him though for the money alone. Plus, college landscape is getting harder and harder to recruit.

3-4 years is bold take. The way Free Agency/Trades are in the NBA, a middle of the pack team can jump to contender in one off-season, especially with good coaching. Not sure Hurley will be a good NBA coach, but with AD, LBJ it doesn't take a lot in FA/Trades to make the Lakers a legit threat in the NBA.

I agree, it's hard to imagine the lunch pail/blue collar shtick working with the Lakers and Lebron in LA. That attitude would work better in Philly, Brooklyn, NY but not LA. Lakers need a 'rockstar' coach that Lebron and AD will respect and know is in charge. Not sure Hurley fits that bill, and there are no coaches available that fit that bill either.

For Hurley, OKC comes to mind as a great fit, but they don't need a coach. Also, with all their upcoming picks coming, Utah would also be a good fit as they will have a lot of young talent to develop.

Lakers have no assets to trade and LeBron is ancient and takes a lot of plays off now. They have $95M in salary to AD and LeBron, and their rotation guys are all pretty flawed - Rui, D'Angelo, Reaves, Vanderbilt, and Vincent. Hurley is a good coach but he can't won't have a talent advantage with the Lakers.

I get the risks, but Hurley knows that the lunch pail/blue collar shtick only works if you have enough talent. While LA is an older team and not likely to buy into that, they will spend the money to get the talent (and the league will oblige, knowing they need a strong team there to make the money they want). Problem is that he may not have time for the team to get that talent before he shows enough success. But if the money's good enough...
