That is correct. No one in their right mind would think that the Summit League even comes close to the Big East. However, Nelson was clearly many many levels ahead of everyone in the Summit. It wasn't even close. Similar to how Baylor looked in the Summit, except that Nelson is a better player and a better prospect than Baylor.

I think Baylor did just fine this year in the Big East. Nelson would have 0 issues at the Big East level.

Agree, I think he could figure out how to play in the BE, but I know that the roster/minutes work out as well for us as they do for some other teams who may be interested. And Traudt/Miller are going to be very good players as well

I admit I have not watched him play beyond some insane clips here and there. But I've seen him referred to as a "Mid Major Unicorn" which I don't recall being used with guys like Hawkins and Baylor. I know the fact that some random people out there have said that isn't dispositive or anything. But I think there seem to be an awful lot of really, really reputable people out there who are projecting him as a second rounder this year and who think that blueblood schools should be trying to land him if he decides to stay in college for a year, so I think there is something pretty quality in there.

Yes. Several high major coaches agree. I think they know more than some of us message board schlubs

He's 6'11" but moves like a guard and is extremely fluid. Can play out on the wing and in the post. Has really good footwork and moves in the post. Extremely long arms, athletic, blocks shots. He is a special player at any level. Every single blueblood school will be reaching out to him.

He didn't shoot the 3 as well last year as many people had hoped but the upside is so high scouts will look past that. His form isn't bad, but it isn't great either. With the right coaching helping him with his form I don't see his shooting ability being an issue. Can easily be fixed in one off-season.

He's the type of player that is going to shine in workouts though, and scouts will be very impressed watching him move and workout in person. I bet he keeps his name in the draft as I see his stock rising once he has workouts and if the combine goes well. Feel as though this is more of a backup plan for if the combine doesn't go well and his stock falls.

This is confusing to me. He would be a Kaluma replacement.. Comparing the shooting numbers I would consider Nelson slightly better, but if you consider the step up in competition to the BE they are probably comparable.

Kaluma - .423 FG / .311 3PT / .736 FT
Nelson - .521 FG / .269 3 PT / .720 FT

Assist to turnover ratio is also not the greatest way to measure their ability to perform as PFs, but again they are comparable. Should probably also consider Nelson was the focal point of their offense and likely drew other teams best defenders/double teams. He also put up 12.7 shots per game to Kalumas 9.3 - meaning he likely had the ball in his hands significantly more and had more opportunities to turn the ball over. Still have to consider the step up in competition again, so likely similar again.

Kaluma - 1.6 assist / 2.1 TO = 0.76 ratio
Nelson - 2.1 assist / 2.6 TO = 0.80 ratio

One of the more important stats IMO for their position would be rebounds. This is something that would likely translate immediately (Baylor went from 7.8 RPG in the Summit to 8.3 RPG in the BE). I think Nelson has the significant edge here.

Kaluma - 6.0 RPG / 0.6 Blocks
Nelson - 9.3 RPG / 1.7 Blocks

Kaluma may not have been a fan favorite by any means, but he is still a solid player and is in contention to be drafted for a reason. I have no idea if the coaches will pursue him or not, but I think he may be better than our current NBA draft player and significantly better at this point in his career than our other options at the 4. With Kalk and Trey back, I think we are still a top 15 team in the country, but the addition of Nelson would make us immediate national champion contenders.
