That is not true. Each conference has a minimum that each team has to play during the 8-year period. Each Big East team is required to play 6 games while each Big Ten team is required to play 4 games. Thanks to the grid that wildjays put together, Butler (3 games so far) and Xavier (3) will be in it every year the rest of the way as will Michigan St. (just 1 appearance so far) as this will be year six of the 8-year deal. It does not say anywhere that a school has to sit a year and it doesn't say anywhere that a school couldn't play every year of the Games.
If Creighton is indeed in the Gavitt Games this year, Iowa at the CHIC makes the most sense. Although I would put this as a very slim possibility, they could send Michigan State to Omaha with the guarantee that its last two Gavitt Games are in East Lansing. With that being said, I think Villanova at Michigan State is much more likely.
As for Big East/Big 12, I'd surmise that CU is on the road with it being about an 80% chance that it's at KU. As someone correctly mentioned, there is no guarantee of a home return game the following year. As for the other 20% of a possibility - Texas or Texas Tech would make sense. My first thought for the other 20% would have been West Virginia, but we could see them in Atlantis...
Since we're spitballing, how about this for a
possible Battle 4 Atlantis Bracket...
(1) Duke vs (8) Texas A&M
(4) West Virginia vs (5) Memphis
(2) Creighton vs (7) Utah
(3) Ohio State vs (6) Wichita State
I know they don't technically "seed" these tournaments, but I think these are how the pods are most likely to align...
Someone threw out the possibility of a home/home series. Only way this happens is if not playing in the Gavitt.
In theory, you'll already have on a max 31-game regular season schedule...(20) Big East Games
(3) Battle for Atlantis games in Bahamas
(1) Battle for Atlantis "mainland" game (which will be a "buy" game that is lined up by the tourney organizers)
(1) Gavitt Game at Home (Iowa?)
(1) BE/B12 Challenge on Road (Kansas?)
(1) at Nebraska
(1) vs Arizona State (return game from last year)
That's 28 games with only 1 cream puff at home. Those other 3 available games are going to be buy games.
Good topic discussion. Hope everyone is safe and healthy.
