Agree. Maybe we are making a mistake with Hepburn, but we've gotten every P5 level player from Omaha pretty much since Mac got here. We have great relationships with the local coaches and it certainly looks like we get every one of the top kids into a Creighton camp as well .. and we track and evaluate them from very early onward

Hoiberg's put together a good staff to recruit, and, again, maybe we've screwed up with Hepburn, but we don't know that right now, and who knows how well we've kept in touch and what the behind the scenes communication has been (has an offer been extended but not made public?, for instance). I'm sure we have kept in touch even with Preston likely gone.

Bottom line with NU and Creighton is that there isn't enough in-state talent to support 1 P5/BE level team, much less two. Our recruiting bases have to be a lot bigger and broader than that. That said, Omaha's very important to us, and we need to defend it.. I think we will .. like I said, we've build the relationships locally. We also have 2 NBA players to point to.

Worth noting that Chucky has one offer right now and it came from a coach who no longer has a job.

I'm a big fan of Chucky. He's a terrific basketball player. But he's not a no-brainer like Hunter Sallis is. There are limitations there in terms of playing at the highest level in college. I'm certainly not betting against Chucky overcoming those limitations and blossoming into a high-major player, but it hasn't happened yet. We'll see what happens; he's got two more years of high school left.

Creighton has had him on campus and has been recruiting him. They just haven't offered yet. It's not like they're ignoring him.

No clue the details in the subscriber article. But the headline and quote suggest increasing interest by the Jays and interest back from Hepburn. Good to see.

The article quoted Chucky saying that Coach Lusk has been in contact with him recently. He also said CU was “picking up its interest in him.” He said that was good since CU’s interest so far has been modest. The article also said he has a meeting with Hoiberg, that UNL’s offer still stands, that he has an unofficial visit to WI, and he’s trying to line up visits to IA and Purdue.

Good enough to get an offer from Wisconsin but still hasn’t shown enough to the jays staff 10 miles up the road...even if the jays offer soon they are now trailing multiple programs
