“Davion takes his grades as serious as he does basketball,” Lewis said about his 4.0-plus student-athlete.
“He really cares. He’s the guy on campus that at the start of the year, he talks in front of the whole school about what it means to be a Viking. He’s just a leader. You can throw off the basketball stuff, he’s going to be a successful person outside of that.”
Lewis said that passion shines through in Mintz in everything from conditioning sessions to the biggest moments of the biggest games.
“He’s always doing something to get better – always,” Lewis said. “I’ve had talented players; everybody’s had talented players, but maybe they didn’t have that desire.”
Lewis added, however, that Mintz’s tenacity shouldn’t overshadow his prodigious talent.
“He’s a freak athlete,” Lewis said, likely getting no argument from anyone who saw Mintz soar for a dunk Saturday in his masterful 10-point second quarter. “… His athleticism is off the charts for a 6-4 point guard.”

If he has Watson's vision and motor, it's going to be a fun three or four years with him at the helm (depending on whether he redshirts first year or backs up Mo).
