2023 Gavitt Games Thread

So -- not a great start to the final Gavitts. Don't think the win/loss was really unexpected at all in those first two games, but the Big East is in a hole to start.

Night One (Mon. November 13):
Michigan over SJU
Purdue over X

Night Two (Tue. November 14):
Wisconsin at Providence -- likely Wisconsin win
Marquette at Illinois -- likely Marquette win
Iowa at Creighton -- likely Creighton win

Night Three (Wed. November 15):
Georgetown at Rutgers -- tossup

Night Four (Fri. November 17):
Maryland at Nova -- likely Nova win
Butler at Mich. St. -- likely Mich. St. win

So it probably comes down to Georgetown to beat Rutgers for the Big East to be able to salvage a draw. And that's counting on Nova to bounce back from getting smacked last night by Penn. Maybe Providence surprises us tonight. Hopefully we hold up our end of the deal.

Not sure how you made your predictions, but a few seem pretty far off-base.

Wisconsin is a 1-point favorite. Not exactly likely.
Marquette is a two-point underdog. Again, not "likely."
All of the hoops metrics sites predict about a 14-point Rutgers win over Georgetown. Not quite a tossup.

At this point, it would be a huge win for the Big East to even split.

I think Wisconsin is likely to beat Providence because I don't believe in Providence.
I thought Marquette was "likely" to win based on being a top 5 team that people are talking about as repeat Big East champions. I made the prediction before hearing that Kolek might be out, which is a big game changer. Not sure in what other world Marquette would be considered na underdog in that game.
And Rutgers is just another team I'm not sold on, while Georgetown seems pretty bad but Cooley has been known to pull of big wins -- so I called it a tossup.

My deepest and humblest of apologies if those "predictions" didn't match up with your betting lines clearly enough, though.

There’s no such thing as a likely win in the AMP/Dunk, but the Big East certainly has its work cut out

Think that MU/Illinois game is a pick-em at best even with Kolek at full health. I know it didn't count for anything but Illinois did just beat Kansas in that building a couple weeks ago. KP has Illinois as a fractional favorite ignoring any Kolek issues.

However Providence is crushing it so far so thats looking good

This aged well. Providence up 20 since shortly after halftime.

And I'm clearly an idiot. Holy cow. Apparently Providence may actually be the real deal this year. What a performance.

This crow is a little chewy, but I will get it down.

Marquette showing good toughness here. Was tied or just around that when I started watching and they've out hustled Illinois over and over, but they also just blew 2 FT's and gave up a 3 PTer.. ouch
