2024-2025 Roster

Postby SeattleJay » Fri Apr 26, 2024 8:16 pm

Since the transfer portal topics include a lot of discussion about who MIGHT play for CU, I thought I would start a thread about who is actually playing at CU.

LJay just had a great post on the portal thread identifying who we have by class.

I think we will have a lot more discussion about who will be in the rotation and how many minutes.

We will know if Kalk is going pro tomorrow and the portal closes on 5/1 (or is it midnight on 4/30?)

Anyway, we have 10 now and will know a lot more in 4 days when the portal closes.

We currently have 3 openings.

Cut and paste from other thread:

Jays back to 10 scholarship players.

Sr/grad
Ashworth G
Kalk C
Neal G/F

Jr
Miller F

Soph
Traudt F
Green F

Frosh
Knox G
McAndrew F
Johnson G
Davis G

Pretty good positional balance. Need another big. Need another ball handler. Another in Miller’s class? Other? Kinda bummed about the Hall kid from BYU. I thought he checked major boxes.

Does you class standing makes a difference these days? How many of those Freshman or Sophomores do you think will play four years at CU?

I think it still matters in the sense that it says something about the roster construction. We have a great set of Frosh coming in, but if Kalk comes back we have to be careful to have a great rotation around him to maximize how far the team can go in the NCAA's and that likely means a bit more maturity, especially for the 2 spot

PG: Ashworth / TBD? / Davis / Thomas?
SG: TBD / Johnson / Knox /Neal?
SF: Neal / Miller
PF: Miller / Traudt / Green / McAndrew / Neal?
C: Kalkbrenner / TBD? / Traudt / Green / Townley-Thomas?

If Kalk comes back it feels like the 2 big holes on the roster are:

- veteran 2 guard to replace a bit of what Trey brought for this offense
- backup PG similar to what FF did (heard some good things about Shane Thomas, is he sticking around and can he be a break glass in case of emergency help at PG?). Either way it feels like we need a solid backup PG/combo guard to stabilize things here - not to start a firestorm, but Pops at the 2 solves some of the backup PG issue, although I don't see him as a true PG and more of a combo guard

And, depending on what the coaches want to do with the backup 5, potentially a bigger backup to give Kalk some minutes to rest, but we also have both Green and Traudt who could play small ball 5 (remember Green has a 7-ft wingspan), and maybe Townley-Thomas could also be a break glass in case of emergency type player

I put on some question marks for Neal as I can see him playing defense against most 1's through 3's on the floor, and even some 4's we will see. Additionally, he can play the 2-4 offensively, but when he was asked to pass and distribute more the year before last his turnover rate went up as well,

But either way without Trey and Baylor this offense will look different so I don't know that it makes sense to get too caught up in which forward is playing which spot and whether or not a 2 sometimes plays 3 or 3 plays the 2. Big part of this year's offense will be seeing just how far Miller, Green, and Traudt can go with this offseason. They do similar things, but also different and complementary things. I expect to see some big improvements from all of them

fixed - for the break glass emergency PG, I meant Thomas (I heard some good things about him last year, but no idea if he's back next year)

No news. Is that good news?

The NBA early entry deadline has passed.
