We need Jasen in the starting line-up. If he continues to improve his 3-pt shot, then he needs to be on the floor.

The point guard situation will be interesting. Pretty clearly Ty Davis is our 4th best guard behind Graves, Zugic, and Dix. Is it possible for us to be better with him as the starting PG? Will the coaches switch up the offense?

I really wonder about that second point, as we are going to be so much bigger and more versatile in the backcourt by adding the skills/size of Graves, Dix, and Greer.

Graves was referred to as a “floor general” in Creighton’s signing announcement.

This. He was a floor general of a shitty shooting team at Charlotte. How many assists did he not get from a team of clank-clank? I’m thinking he will flourish as the lead guard at Creighton. I also expect Ty to get a lot more run in the lead guard role and I hope the game slows down for him next year as he always seemed so sped up in his limited minutes.

Boom for LJay, and I think Davis will surprise us going forward.

Ty wasn’t a four star for nothing. I don’t think it’s a given he is a clear fourth although he obviously doesn’t have the experience of the others. If he works hard this summer, he is going to contribute meaningful minutes. I’m thinking close to 20 per game. Ty, Dix and Graves are going to make a terrific rotation among the 2 guard spots, with Zugic at the 2 some, and he and apparently Dix also running some at the 3, I think, particularly if someone gets in foul trouble. I am hopeful no one has to play 32+ a game next season.

To be fair, only Rivals had Ty as a four-star. His 24/7 composite ranking was very similar to Ben Shtolzberg – three stars, in the 160s for overall national ranking. (Shtolzberg was actually 161 vs. 167 for Davis.)

Fun fact: Ryan Miller just got a commitment from Shtolzberg so he’ll now have three guys with Creighton ties with him at Murray State.)

I would love to see the game slow down for Davis but he hasn’t passed the eye test yet. I would still love another primary ball handler from the portal for that reason.

Ty passed the Cajones Test in the DePaul game.

Hell of a final 26 seconds of double overtime versus a conference bottom feeder, for sure. But that doesn’t inspire confidence in him as a primary ballhandler. I think most fans held their breath every time he touched the ball last season. Hoping for a productive offseason of growth.

Starting my deep dive on Graves soon, but here's an overview of Ashworth vs. Graves from last season.

Ashworth top five play types last season:
>> P&R: 38.8% of possessions, 0.936 PPP (including passes: 56.3% of possessions, 1.086 PPP)
>> Spot-up: 14.9% of possessions, 1.143 PPP
>> Transition: 12.3% of possessions, 0.853 PPP
>> Handoffs: 11.3% of possessions, 0.855 PPP
>> Off screen: 8.7% of possessions, 0.849 PPP

Graves:
>> P&R: 23.5% of possessions, 0.962 PPP (including passes: 37.3% of possessions, 0.976 PPP)
>> Spot-up: 16.2% of possessions, 0.867 PPP
>> Handoffs: 14.4% of possessions, 1.138 PPP
>> Transition: 13.8% of possessions, 1.000 PPP
>> Isolation: 11.7% of possessions, 1.185 PPP

While Graves gets it done in a completely different way than Ashworth, he ran a lot of the same actions at Charlotte that are present in Creighton's offense. He's a good P&R point guard but is less reliant on using a ball screen to create an advantage than Ashworth was, adding an ISO element to the offense (insofar as what he does translates to the Big East level).

Big fan of Ty and his feel for the game and the role he might play for this team one day, but he needs to show he can consistently be a threat to break down defenses and score in order for his playmaking to shine through, and he hasn't done that yet.

It's pretty clear at this point Creighton recruited Graves to be its point guard. Mac's going to play his best players heavy minutes, because they're his best players and you're typically a better team with your best players on the floor. The key guys will play as many minutes as they can handle while remaining productive in competitive games. Dix and Graves will be 30+ MPG guys. Add Žugić and whatever his year-two role will look like and there won't be anywhere close to 20 MPG available in the backcourt barring injury.

That said, it will be interesting to see how they round out the roster beyond filling the back-up center role. Do they believe Davis will be able to give them 6-8 MPG next season? If not, will they be able to land a better option to fill that role?

Sidenote, but I keep seeing people referring to Greer as a guard. I don't see him playing that role at Creighton. He's an off-ball wing. Put him more in the Green category.
