Funny that this came up just a few days after a lot of talk about the moving screens: Moving screen (sorta) controversy at the end of the Iowa/UConn women's game. I don't think anyone thinks this isn't a moving screen. My contention would be that this one was so far out of the rule book that they have to call it

Doubt that officials will ever call the regular moving screens as that would cripple most of the NCAA offensive schemes, but things like this should be called every time

The real problem is that, much like the end of CU/SDSU, that exact same play happened a dozen times during the game and it wasn't called a single time until right there. You ask the players to "adjust" to how games are being officiated, but then you change the way the game is being officiated in the final 5 seconds. Absolutely should not have been called.

I didn't watch the whole game- went in and out, but I thought they made the same call early in the game

Now they probably missed a bunch and that lack of consistency is a problem, but it looked like they called one like that earlier, and in this case she did pretty much every single thing to make it a foul - got the leg out late, leaned into the defender with her body, extended her elbows. Only thing she didn't do was extend with her hands like an OT

What I would like to see is consistency - THAT type of moving screen should be called every single time

This. I think the parallels between this and the SDSU game are spot on. Was is a moving screen? Yes. Had similar screens been whistled throughout the game? No. Is that a call you make in the final seconds of a Final Four game? Probably not. If I were a UConn fan, I would have been angry. If I were an Iowa fan, I would be applauding the purity of the call.

It was an egregious foul if you look at all angles. Her feet were about 6 feet apart (suppose to be inside the shoulders), she was still moving and she stuck her knee out. If that was Creighton playing defense and a player did that and didn’t get called for it this board would be in a complete melt down mode.

Yeah the discourse around the screen is ridiculous. I'm sure there were missed calls through the game, but that was an egregiously bad screen. Of course when they showed the replay on TV they didn't show here legs spread looking like she was trying to do the splits while setting a screen. Not comparable at all to the SDSU game call and that *was* a foul on Nembhard, I just wish they wouldn't have called it :D

Three things you never bring up at my dinner table: politics, religion and illegal screens.

When I saw the screen in real time, I thought it was a bad call. The immediate Twitter backlash agreed with me. Then, in subsequent slow motion replays, it was a good call. Much more egregious than it looked at real speed. You have some people saying the fix was in to get Iowa into the championship game for Caitlin Clark ratings. So, people still fighting saying it wasn’t a foul. Even Fanta, who I respect, said no whistle should have been blown.

Turns out, the knee jerk hysteria was wrong. I was wrong in real time. Great call by officials. And this is why I rarely complain about refs and cringe when it is done so often. It’s a tough job. Rarely black and white. Refs don’t have slow mo.

Most people watching are biased to one team, many calls are judgement 50/50 plays, and thus half the people are pissed at each of those close ones. So, everyone thinks reffing is shit because their side didn’t get 100% of those 50/50 calls.

It was clearly an illegal screen. Just like Nembhard clearly contacted the SDSU's shooter's hand. Both were very inconvenient tuths for UCONN and Jay's fans. Both plays, despite being in the last 5 seconds, were one of a couple hundred plays during the 40 minutes and didn't individually "decide" the game.
