IF we return everyone besides DM next year, and we got a player like towns, we’d have

MZ
TSA
Ballock
DJ
Mahoney
Towns
Epperson
Kalkbrenner
A. Jones
Mitchell

That’s 10 more than capable players in a lineup. Landing a guy like Towns, who hasn’t played in a year and a half (will be two by next season), would take minutes from DJ, Mahoney, and A Jones who have been in the program and will have proved their capable (Jones hasn’t played yet, but reports are he’s a good player).

Two ways of thinking here. We don't necessarily know who will be back for sure, and a grad transfer might be a good choice if we know we might not have someone that we need for next year. We really don't want to miss a chance to go deep in the tourney next year

Other way of thinking is that we want someone more mature to bridge the gap to the following year after we graduate everyone, but then a more traditional transfer would make sense.

The idea of getting the right guy to ensure a deep tourney run is likely the biggest concern for the coaches, provided they can sell the players on sharing minutes in exchange for the bigger success.

Cuz I was dumb and forgot about those 2 in the post before even though I don’t think those would play that many meaningful minutes if we did get Towns

Uh, crap like what? What was offensive about that post?

He accidentally left out Shareef and Antwann, who are in my opinion big parts of the rotation next year. I was wondering where and why he thought they fit in the rotation.

Clearly went over your head

Creighton has offers out there for players at all positions. The first player to commit with Creighton will get a spot on the team regardless of the position they play. You can never have too many guards.

So who are our top prospects for 2020? I think we still have two open scholarships, and the recruiting news has been limited recently. I am guessing our chances to land Walton are slim to none. So, where does that leave us? Maybe a grad transfer for one spot? Do we have any interest in Donovan Williams now? I know we didn’t previously.

Barring any departures I believe we only have 1 scholarship open currently.

How do we have any open spots?

The only seniors on the roster are Jones, Mintz, and Scurry.

Scurry isn’t on scholarship, so his departure doesn’t open a spot.

Mintz is not using his senior season - so until we hear he is transferring, his spot isn’t currently open.

Jones’ spot is used by Kalkbrenner.

Where are these open spots coming from?

the Mintz thing makes next year a bit more confusing. If I'm doing the numbers right, it's 1 if he comes back and 2 if he doesn't.

It'd be great if he were back and it would help us line up for a really good roster going into next year, but who knows these days - he may want a starting role and a lot of minutes (but I suspect he'd be getting a lot of minutes this year if he could play as well -- we have 3 guys playing almost the entire game).

Either way, I think the need is for a grad transfer who is a tall 4 who can play the 5 and be physical, who can shoot a bit and run the floor, that gives us flexibility against bigger lineups and smaller. We lose K. Jones and don't know what level Epperson will be at next year. Bishop's really playing well, Kalkbrenner's a great addition, but we have a great roster and don't want to screw it up because of yet another ill time injury.

problem is that leaves us in a bind on that other scholarship. Modern basketball means movement, but without a transfer and with Mintz staying that means we'd have to think hard if a guy like Walton wanted to commit tomorrow.

Believe Scurry is using the open scholarship. Think there are only 12 regular scholarship players on the roster now.
