I love Reef and what he’s given to the program. We don’t go to the Sweet 16 without him last year. But I’m going to assume he transfers after this year. He’s good enough to start somewhere else, and the writings on the wall that Nembhard is the starting PG now. I hope I’m wrong and he stays, but that’s my assumption.

Is the thought for Modestas then to see how he stacks up against Green and then decide or would you guess he has a better chance at being told he should look elsewhere?

I see most of the pieces coming back from this years team, which doesnt leave a lot of room for many impact dudes but the name I am watching is UNC's Kerwin Walton. Jays were super high on him coming out of high school and his minutes have significantly dropped in year two in chapel hill. He would be an impact shooter to pair with Nembhard-Reef-Alexander-Rati in the backcourt

At this point we’re really low on schollies for next year and we don’t have a viable backup for Kalk. I’d think they’re waiting to see what bigs join the portal.

I haven’t watched UNC at all this year, but I did last year and remember being bummed we couldn’t snag him because he seemed like one of the best players/shooters on their team. That minutes drop is really surprising. Would be awesome to add him but I could also see him transferring to Minnesota. I remember the last days of his recruitment were a whole debacle.

How does one go about recruiting a "good center backup"? Just saying maybe this isn't as easy as it looks.

Not saying it’s easy, just saying it’s a position of need.

Tj lost 3 guys last fall...@MooU.

Xavier Foster was cleared - no charges were ever filed. Could fill C/PF slot handily.
Hinson available as a 6-6/7 wing.
Both on the 247 trans list.

Agree, and sort of agreeing with both of you. It's a position of need, and it will be hard to find a quality center who is willing to backup someone like Kalk (who's also shown he can play extended minutes at a high level).

This may be a place where we look for a quality developmental center where the sales pitch is that Mac does an incredible job of developing big men, and they get a chance to be a 10 minute a game rotation guy behind Kalk while they develop, and a chance Kalk won't stick around for 4 years as well.

It looks like there are a few quality big men on the list for 2023 as prospects already, so I'm guessing that's the more likely outcome. That said, if we get a great transfer who wants to come here and maybe play some PF also, then we would absolutely take them
