Nik's highlights shows he's quite versatile,...nice stroke, smooth 3 point and mid range shot, can break down defenders, changes gears quickly, nice touch...

I don't see much in the way of assists from these highlights but no reason he couldn't be great at assists the way he sees the floor, dribbles, and can break down the defense.

He's clearly good enough that the coaches wanted to bring him in for a visit. But because ictjay said no thanks, I too believe we should move on!

I wonder what you thought of Jamiya Neal based on his pedestrian Arizona State stats before we brought him in? He turned into a guy we'd all begging to bring back for one year. Damien Jefferson?

I trust the staff's ability to evaluate talent and identify people that will fit our system and can be developed.

There also needs to be some perspective that we will be casting a wide net because the top two or three guys at their position may not be gettable for us.

Graves is a PG/SG type that had to be a volume scorer at Charlotte which impacted his efficiency. We need multiple guards, multiple guys that can handle the ball so your PG doesn't have to play 38-40 mpg for you to have a functional offense. I don't think recruiting Graves stops us from pursuing a big time transfer PG.

The raw assist numbers are deceiving because Charlotte was a terrible shooting team -- they shot 31.0% from three (322nd in D1) and 49.6% from two (243rd). I'd look at something like assist rate instead to try and determine what kind of player he is (and I suspect that's what the coaches see, too). Graves had an assist on 19.1% of his team's made baskets this year -- that ranked 470th out of almost 5,000 D1 players. That tells me he's likely good at sharing the ball and creating shots for others, they just weren't great at doing anything with it.

Assuming the staff sees something in him similar to what they saw in Neal -- who averaged 1.8 assists per game as ASU and was over 4apg at Creighton -- where the raw numbers will look a lot different in a better system with better shooters.

Ashworth needed 1/2 season to semi grasp the off offense as our PG.Neal was fabulous. More so the last 1/2 of the season as our SG. Next year I think we need a PG with a emphasis on playmaking and defense. With continued developement I think Ty Davis can fill that role.
