I went to the CU - Omaha scrimmage Friday night. We won 2-1, and all three sets were close. Honestly, we looked pretty average although we rotated a lot of players in and out. Ivy Leuck started at setter, and in my opinion, she is better than Strain. Ivy is a very good server. I know the Cal transfer isn't here yet. So, that position could change. Sydney B. started at libero in sets 1 and 3, and Saige D. played libero in set 2. I thought Sidney looked better. The other starters were JJ, Ava, Abbey Hayes, and Kiara R.

Destiny NS seemed to split time with Hayes, and those two seem to be battling it out for Nora Sis' position. Kiara R. didn't play a lot. Nora Wurtz got a lot of playing time along with the OSU transfer. Sky McCune was not suited up once again. I am not sure why she didn't play.

In my opinion, we seemed very reliant on Ava which is to be expected. I thought we really missed the fire of Maddy Bilinovic and Elise G. Granted, this was a scrimmage. However, we will need someone to take up that vocal leadership role, likely Kiara. We also will need someone to step up and provide a reliable alternative to Ava.

I agree with the earlier comments that we don't seem as good as last year, but with time, we should be okay.

Thanks! I’m assuming the Cal transfer was recruited to be our setter and that will change a lot of things. Probably hard to make judgment without seeing her.

I think Sky recently had surgery for a lingering injury.

Hayes was like a DS for DNS in set 1 (so Hayes was on the court to start since Ava was in front row to start the match). I think Hayes went 6 rotations in the 2nd set though.

If the first set will be any indication, I think we expect Jaya to be a much bigger part of the offense next year. She was even getting a bunch of OOS sets and she started really well. She didn't get as many swings/kills after the first set but they were changing a bunch of players around as the match went on.

Sis and Whitten have seen some more playing time this week. Sis made her first start on Friday and had 19 points, 17 kills (.250), and 13 digs. Whitten made her first start for Omaha today.

Orlando will play at 5 on CBSSN today and Norah is starting again.

The progress reports, on Creighton’s current team and former Creighton players in the pro leagues, are appreciated.

I don't know volleyball player Ava Martin. As I watched a video of a post-match press conference, I wondered if Ava Martin knew Kirsten.

Martin continually referred to her as "Booth."

Norah and Ava are on the 18 player USA U23 Pan Am cup training roster. 12 players will make the final roster.

New assistant coach/recruiting coordinator. She was one of Wisconsin's setters in their 6-2 system in 2022 and 2023 and holds Wisconsin's record for career aces. Following that, she played one season of pro volleyball and most recently was an assistant coach for the Indy Ignite (PVF team) in their debut season this year.

Scheduling info I have seen so far

League play has been reduced to 16 matches from 18. The BE tournament field is going back to only 4 teams too.

8/16 Colorado State (exhibition)
8/23 Penn State in Lincoln
8/29 Texas in Madison
8/31 Kansas in Madison
9/5 San Diego (tournament hosted by USC and also includes UC Santa Barbara)
9/21 Kansas (Omaha tournament also seems to include Omaha and South Florida)

That is probably most of the nonconference slate other than Nebraska and the LV/Rice/UNI tournament

Good sleuthing, jaykorver!
